Two calligraphic rewards of merit Deacon John Sprague (1786-1856) of Andover, Connecticut, dated 1820
The first inscribed "Mr. William Y. Sprague is presented with this Certificate as a merited Reward for his good behaviour, and his superior progress in Learning during his attendance at School, the last winter/John Sprague Instr./Given at Andover (S. E. School District) March 18th, 1820", the second inscribed "Mr. Norman Sprague receives this as a Reward for his Good Behaviour, his diligence, and superior progress in Learning, during his attendance at School, the last winter/John Sprague Instr./Andover (S. E. School District) March 21, 1820"; watercolor and ink on paper, framed.
