Lot Description
An Ottoman silk and metallic thread-embroidered black-ground curtain circa 1813
Bearing the tughra of Sultan Mahmud II (r. 1808-1839), dated AH1228. With two arches supported by solomonic columns, enclosing various Arabic inscriptions on the black ground and applied moss-green, golden brown and red panels, below four further applied inscribed cartouches, all within elaborate scrollwork, densely worked in silver and golden metallic threads, within a red-ground border.
