To Mrs. [Hamilton] Fish, regretfully withdrawing a commitment that he and Mrs. Grant made to dine with Governor and Mrs. Fish, owing to a request from the Secretary of State that he appear in Washington in connection with "the commercial treaty between the United States and Mexico."
