Lot Description

Civil War appliquéd album quilt of Confederate interest dated 1861

Stamped and embroidered with makers' names, including Rachel A. Weeks, Addison B. Weeks, Caroline Ackerman, Ellen Ackerman, J.M. Van Buskirk and Maria Terhune, the squares variously worked with solid cotton floral and geometric designs, some padded, the central square with worked with dates "1861 and 1776" and crossed Confederate flags commemorating the secession of the seven Southern states at the beginning of the Civil War, and the year of American Independence.
