Lot Description

*A Korean wire, shagreen, and mother of pearl inlaid lacquer clothing box joseon dynasty, 19th century

The large rectangular box with reddish-brown ground with areas of powdery gold, the cover with two phoenix, the sides with stylized floral scrolls, interior lined with mottled blue paper. NOTE: For a sharkskin and mother of pearl inlaid dragon box, see the example in the collection in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, assession number 2015.500.3.8A, B.
