Lot Description

Three English sterling silver presentation pieces given to Sergeant Major W. Grainger various makers and dates

Comprising a later-repoussed George III sterling silver tankard, W. & J. Priest, London, 1765 and a Victorian sterling silver salver, maker's mark W, London, 1856, each engraved: "Presented to/Sergeant Major Grainger/BY THE OFFICERS OF THE/South Cork Lt. Infantry Militia/as a token of their appreciation/of his Services during the/Embodiment of the Reg't./in the Years/1855 & 1856; and a cased George IV sterling silver cup, maker's mark rubbed, Exeter, 1829-30, and engraved: "THIS CUP IS PRESENTED/TO/Serg Major W Grainger/87th 8th Cork Lt Infantry/By his Comrade Sergts. as a/slight mark of their esteem for him/7th June 1856; sold together with a letter detailing Sergeant Major Grainger's accomplishments dated October 30, 1929.
