Lot Description
A fine and impressive Louis XVI style ormolu and enameled bronze mounted fruitwood marquetry and parquetry mahogany bedframe the mounts by Jean Rabiant, late 19th/early 20th century
After the design by Jean-Henri Riesener (German/French, 1734-1806) for the commode for La Chambre de Louis XVI à Versailles, the headboard with cavetto cornice above ormolu banded panel surmounted by a sun-in-splendour, flanked by beaded pilasters headed by classical busts; the rails with leaftip-cast ormolu banding, the demilune footboard with central floral marquetry panel hung with floral garlands flanked by curved parquetry panels mounted with appliques representing allegories of music hung from ribbons; the base centered by ormolu cornucopia surrounding a cobalt blue enabled globe mounted with fleurs-de-lys.
