Lot Description

Three gold and ivory mourning pins/pendants England or America, late 18th/early 19th century

The first, of octagonal form, depicting female mourner lamenting by two covered urns raised on rectangular plinth inscribed, "EE/ AE," the reverse inscribed, "Catharine Wells" and fitted with pin and loop attachment; the second, of marquise form, painted en grisaille, depicting weeping woman holding a handkerchief and anchor with masted ship sailing in the distance, the reverse set with hair and once fitted with pin and now with loop attachment; the third, of circular form, depicting woman praying beside obelisk decorated with sun and winged skull, loop attachment, all seemingly unmarked.
