Lot Description

ENCYCLOPEDIA
Encyclopedia Britannica A New Survey of Universal Knowledge. [1959].

Shortly after graduating from college, Madeleine Albright moved to Chicago. There, she became a picture editor for Encyclopaedia Britannica. Albright described her role in an interview with Encyclopaedia Britannica: "my job when I first started was to select the various art and photographs and maps that went with those articles. And it's one of the things that I truly did enjoy doing in life. And it taught me what is really important in terms of reading and understanding." This set was published just before she entered the publisher's employ. She is now included in recent editions of Encyclopedia Britannica for her work as an author, roles in government, and legacy in teaching.

Together, 24 volumes, in original bindings (condition generally very good).

Provenance for the lot: Secretary Madeleine K. Albright’s copies, with bookplates.
