Shortly after becoming United Nations Ambassador, Madeleine Albright was asked to speak at the Gridiron Club in Washington D.C. She ended her remarks on a serious note referencing President Clinton's Arkansas hometown, invoked during his campaign as “a place called Hope.” Secretary Albright said "I was eleven years old when I arrived in America from a neighborhood in Prague called Smichov, which happens to be the Czech word for laughter. No matter how serious the word becomes, I still believe in a place called Smichov."
