Lot Description
The first leaf depicts figures making their way through mountainous gates, signed and dated summer 1907, with three seals and an inscription which may be translated: 'Thousands of mountain peaks in the distance serve as garrison for the fortress. High cliffs at both sides make the important fortress even stronger.' The second leaf shows figures approaching a compound by a lake, signed and dated March 1914, with three seals and an inscription, which may be translated: 'A traveler is sitting with a monk, fresh lotus leaves are floating on the water's surface.' The third leaf provides a view of a figure on a cliffside path, contemplating pines and the lake below, signed and dated 1918, with three seals. The inscription may be translated: 'Sitting under the pine tree, lonely, my heart flying away from earth, without disturbance of worldly affairs, my undefiled ears could enjoy ancient sounds' all sight H 9 in., 22.8 cm by L 19 1/2 in., 49.5 cm
