First edition, first issue. 24mo, contemporary (original?) sheep, morocco spine label; rubbed and worn, covers detached and dampstained, spine singed, foot of spine gone. Dampstaining extending 1 1/2 inches from gutters affecting front matter, title page, and first "Contents" leaf, dampstaining to blank bottom margins of p. ix-50, occasional dampstaining to blank fore edge margins, back blank and back endpapers dampstained. 20th-century ink annotations relating to the history of this copy on front blank recto.
Collated - complete with endpapers and blanks, unsophisticated. Leaf size, 5 3/8 x 3 1/4 inches; 135 x 80 mm.
Regarded as the second cookbook by an American author; more scarce than the first cookbook by an American author, Amelia Simmons, Hartford 1796. The above is the first cookbook published in New York.
