Lot Description

(American Manuscrip...

(American Manuscripts & Autographs) 1 Piece. Document Signed. Jackson, Andrew. (Washington), May 3, 1837. 1 p., folio on vellum, vignettes at head of document, paper seal (intact); light creasing and minor wrinkling. Ship's passport for the "Cora." Partly printed, filled-in manuscript. Filled-in manuscript often faded; Andrew Jackson's signature browned but strong, traversed by two light, vertical creases. Countersigned by Secretary of State Louis McClane.
We presume that Jackson and McClane signed this document well before it was filled-in for the "Cora," as this document is dated two months after the end of Jackson's administration.
