Paris: Estienne Michallet, 1682. 12mo, contemporary mottled calf, later morocco spine label; scuffed, corners rubbed, spine desiccated, later endpapers and binder's blanks. Folding plate at back. 18th-century ink annotations on title page. Stains at bottom front matter gutters and bottom gutters of first signatures, but internally generally clean. Ex-library ink stamp at head of title page, on verso of title-page and at foot of last text page. 6 preliminary leaves, (1)-158 p., fold plate. First French-language edition, complete but without the supplements (p. 159-164 and Comiers' plate).
Denis Papin, 1647-1713, French-born physicist, mathematician, and inventor, best known for his pioneering invention of the steam digester, the forerunner of the pressure cooker and of the steam engine.
