Lot Description

A Napoleon III gilt and patinated bronze figural mantel clock after Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (French, 1824-1887), circa 1862

The movement by Auguste Lemaire, Paris, stamped to backplate with maker's mark and numbered "411", with white enamel chapter ring surrounding a gilt center inscribed "AUGst LEMAIRE" and "121 Rue Vieille-du-Temple/PARIS"; the clock set within a gilt bronze columnar case raised on various feet and festooned with swags, laurel garlands, and grape vines, surmounted by a patinated bronze figural group of La Lecture, signed to base "A. CARRIER."
