Lot Description
An Empire gilt-bronze figural mantel clock Pierre-Philippe Thomire (French, 1751-1843), circa 1808
Depicting Antigone promising loyalty to Oedipus, the stele shaped case modeled as the tomb of King Laïus housing an enamel dial marked "Revel/Rue de la Loi" and later clock movement; the verde antico marble plinth mounted with an extremely fine relief frieze depicting Oedipus' murder of Laïus; the whole raised on an acanthus-cast bronze base above gryphon feet.
