Lot Description

An Edward VII silver gentlemen's traveling dressing set belonging to Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich in original leather case unknown maker G.H.L., London, various dates 1901-1905

Comprising fifteen pieces, the rectangular brass-mounted carrying case stamped to top "H.I.H. Grand Duke Michael" fitted with two military hairbrushes, a clothes brush, a cologne bottle, two tonic bottles, a powder bottle, and a toothbrush bottle all silver-mounted and engraved with the Imperial crown and the cypher "MM" for Michael Mikhailovich; a similarly engraved silver tooth powder case and sterling silver soap case, a paper knife with the Grand Duke's cypher, a leather-covered portable inkwell, a combcase, and a leather writing portfolio; together with an original signed photograph of Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich dedicated to Mr. Kenneth Nicholson and original documents relating to the provenance.
