Chevalier, 1840 - 1844. 8vo, presumed original publisher's 3/4 red morocco and red cloth, gilt, gilt-lettered and ruled spines, marbled edges and endpapers; occasionally scuffed, joints, corners and spine ends occasionally a little rubbed. With 500 hand-colored lithographic plates, tissue guards. Dampstain tide line affecting vol. 1 title page (from the top of the imprint and below), also affecting the bottoms of the first 90 p., noticeable on text leaves and the first 20 tissue guards, unobtrusively affecting the bottoms of the first 20 plates; bottoms of text p. (9) - 34 in vol. 4 showing tide line of dampstaining, unobtrusively affecting bottoms of plates 211 - 213; scattered light foxing in vol. 7 affecting several quires of text leaves, a few tissue guards, but not noticeably affecting plates; other very occasionally light to very occasionally moderate foxing and dust smudging affecting a few text leaves and tissue guards - not noticeably affecting plates, occasional foxing and offsetting to tissue guards. Internally most often clean and crisp with bright set of the plates. Complete with half titles and ""Names of New Subscribers"" sheets at back of every volume.
