(Autographs : Presidential). Buchanan, James. Two (2) Autograph Letters Signed: London, September 2, 1853. 3pp, with docketed integral page, 4to, creases along old folds,
a few small separations - no paper loss. To [his nephew] (Elliott) Eskride (Lane). An affectionate, familial letter, composed with in a few weeks of Buchanan's arrival in London to serve as U.S Minister to the United Kingdom, reporting on the effects of his recent voyage, his appreciation upon the receipt from his nephew of several Lancaster, Pennsylvania newspapers, greetings to other family members. * idem. Autograph Letter Signed. Washington, March 29, 1857. 3pp, with docketed integral page, 4to, creases along old folds, a few small separations - no paper loss. To [his nephew] James (B. Lane), expressing his sorrow at the passing of his nephew Eskridge [James B. Long's brother], closing , "give my love to Harriet & Mrs. Lane & affectionate regards to Taylor Lane. Alas poor Ekridge..." Composed 25 days after assuming the presidency of the United States. * Lot also includes secretarial signed Buchanan presidential land patent, May 15, 1860.
