(Autographs : American Politics). Clay, H(enry). Ashland, June 19, 1839.
1p., 4to, with holograph integral address leaf, bearing Clay's free frank. Creasing along old folds. To John G Watmough (High Sheriff of Philadelphia), making note of the "most horrible condition of the public of Philadelphia...", thus apparently referring to the 1838 torching of Pennsylvania Hall by a nativists mob. Clean & clear, light to moderate vertical crease through the "H" in Clay's signature in closing of letter.
