1 Vol. "Shi Kar Book/ N. W. N./ 1868 - 1886. Gilt-lettered binding title. 4to, original green morocco, gilt, occasionally scuffed, spine rubbed. Log book filled in in manuscript, recording the hunting activities of a British engineer in the British Isles, January 1868 - September 1871; Indian subcontinent, December 1871 - September 1900. Approximately 120 manuscript leaves (the first 15 recording shooting in the British Isles, the rest on the Indian subcontinent), each entry records the shooting date, the "bag" (i.e. the species), and the locality. The "bag" includes small and large game, game birds, etc. Many leaves embellished with wood engraved illustrations of hunting and related subjects excised mostly from contemporary illustrated periodicals, with also a few original pencil drawings and 3 small format albumen photo prints. Also mounted are related newspaper clippings, excised published tables, etc. Several manuscript recipes for Vindaloo, Curry, Lark pie, Ginger Beer, etc. at back.
