Lot Description

Important George III ormolu and gold mounted agate necessaire in the form of a cabinet on stand circa 1765

In the manner of James Cox, the agate veneered and ormolu mounted cabinet opening to reveal a removable drawer mounted with ormolu floral festooned colonnade above a smaller removable drawer mounted with ormolu C-scrolls and floral sashes; the upper drawer fitted with three gold and glass scent bottles, a pair of gold and steel scissors, a gold mounted ivory nail brush, a carved and gold mounted ivory name plate with personal inscription dated 1860, a gold canister and spoon, a gold-handled straight razor, a gold-handled tweezer, a gold-handled pick, and various manicure items; the lower drawer lined in pink satin; the whole surmounted by four gold flame finials and central watch in architectural setting signed "Tho. Best/London" terminating in a fifth gold flame finial; the whole raised on four rocaille legs and feet.
