Lot Description

Two rare layered reverse-painted glass panels depicting the first hot air balloon flights by the Frères Montgolfier 19th century

Each with six layers of reverse-painted glass, the first depicting the flight of Étienne Montgolfier on June 4, 1783 in Annonay, the second depicting the flight of Joseph Montgolfier on January 19, 1784 in Lyon, each in matching gilt gesso and carved wood frame. (2).
