Lot Description
Minton majolica butter dish and stand circa 1866
Modeled in the form of a coopered barrel, the cover surmounted by vine form handle issuing leaves and berries, the body mounted with handles modeled as cow masks, on conforming stand, impressed "Minton", "496" with registration lozenge and date cypher for 1866 to underside, the dish also impressed; together with a George Jones butter dish and stand also modeled as a coopered barrel, the straps picked out in yellow against the dark brown ground, on conforming stand, signed "1845" to unglazed thumbprint on the mottled tortoiseshell underside.
