Lot Description

African-American pieced and double-sided quilt tennessee or alabama, 19th/20th century

Worked with homespun and machine-woven wool and cotton pieces, one side worked with various wool and cotton pieces in browns, purples, black and red in a "chimney sweep" pattern of nine squares divided by a bar grid, the other side worked with cotton and wool pieces in shades of beige, black and purple in an abstract architectural design, diagonal line and simplified running shell quilting, one side with hand-stitched velcro around edge.
