Appliquéd, embroidered and trapunto album quilt made by catherine hammett spencer (1821-1898), st. mary's county, md, circa 1870
Comprised of nine blocks, patterned with flowers, butterfly, grapes, pineapple, heart and anchor, cornucopia, strawberry vine, tree with snake and birds and a floral wreath, within a fern border, all worked with a variety of solid and printed cotton fabrics, heightened by grid and conforming quilting.
