Lot Description

Japanese ivory and abalone inlaid black, gilt, and taka-maki-e lacquered bronze mounted four panel floor screen late Meiji period, unsigned

Each panel in three sections, the upper section with fan-shaped borders enclosing three cranes in flight, above larger central section inlaid with ivory and abalone doves amongst taka-maki-e lacquered branches, and lower section further lacquered to show various birds all on black ground and the reverse hira-maki-e lacquered to show various birds amongst blossoming trees over a pond.
