Lot Description

Continental cast-iron parade shield likely French, 19th century

The shield of convex form, decorated in repoussé and chased to show a pair of mythological creatures issuing foliate tendrils interspersed with an armorial and military trophy all around a center spike, the outer rim decorated to show grape vines interspersed with masks within a border of domed rivets and rope twist edge; together with a right-hand gauntlet with pointed cuff, etched with bands of arabesques within rope twist borders.
