Lot Description

Fine Mughal gemset jade hilted dagger and scabbard, peshkabz blade dated in Arabic 1668 A.D., but possibly later

Tapering straight watered steel blade with damascened and gemset panels containing rubies, emeralds, and turquoise to the forte and damascened panels bearing inscriptions to the blade, one side reading Afghan Emir Mahmud Neshan Khan and dated in arabic indicating 1668 A.D., the reverse with pseudo-inscription likely in Pashtun, another inscription runs along the top edge of the blade, the jade hilt inset with further rubies and terminating in scroll pommel, the conforming scabbard decorated in repoussé and gemset with rubies, turquoise, diamonds and turquoise to the locket and chape.
