Depicting front elevation of Federal Hall in New York City--the site of George Washington's inauguration on April 30, 1789. On the balcony, a group of figures surround George Washington as he takes the Presidential oath of office, administered by the Chancellor of the State of New York, Robert Livingston (1746-1813).
