Lot Description

George Jones majolica inkstand circa 1871

Modeled in the form of a cushion, the cover surmounted by a recumbent white sheep dog serving as the handle, the interior finely glazed in mottled tortoiseshell and molded with two pen rests to either side of a center well flanked by two removable and recessed ink pots, raised on tassel-form feet issuing from the pillow's corded trim, the base impressed with registration lozenge; together with a small card box modeled with leather belted straps and surmounted by knotted rope handle, signed underglaze 610, 11 to underside of lid.
