Fine Victorian mahogany and tufted leather upholstered invalid's chair circa 1850, manufactured by john ward, london

The carved crestrail over tufted leather back, the hinged and latched out swing arms with scroll carved grips flanking the leather upholstered drop in seat over tufted leather pull-out foot rest with ratcheted support raised on well cast brass wheels, the back with ivory handled mechanical reclining action, the rear seat rail with partial "J. Ward London" paper label, the locking hardware stamped "Cope & Collinson, Jany 2. 1840".
