Lot Description
French silver horizontal pocket sundial and compass signed thoury, a paris, late 17th/early 18th century
The octagonal plate with engraved hour scale depicted on a scroll, marked "pour 49 degrez", the hinged gnomon decorated with scrolling leaf motif, the inset compass with cardinal points marked by crossed lines and named in French, the reverse side with decorated gnomon brace, the back of the dial with engraved scenic landscape of homes along a river, the plate engraved "AParis" and "Thoury".
