Lot Description

Two large pieced cotton quilts first half 19th century

The first, a very large quilt with large central circle with appliqued bird on branch, enclosed by squares and banded ends worked with vibrantly colored chintz patches, the backing muslin stamped with "Fine King Cloth"; the second, another large quilt, with field of eight pointed stars enclosing circles within a printed "Greek key" border, both heightened with diagonal quilting; together with an unfinished quilt, comprised of hexagonal pieces backed with family letters and documents, worked with solid cotton patches.
