Lot Description

Sterling silver repoussé hot water pot from Governor and Mrs. John C. Brown, Pulaski & Nashville, Tennessee marked for henry sempken (active 1860-1889), alexandria, va and washington, dc, with

overstriking that for s. kirk & sons, baltimore, md, 1861-1868 Of oval form raised on conforming pedestal foot, all-over heavily repoussé-worked with flowers and foliage against a stippled ground, one side with vignette of festooned building and an adjacent tower, the other side with a tower nestled within landscapes punctuated by birds enclosing engraved dedication: "To Mama from Marie Brown McMillin and Benton McMillin 1887" with the name "Mrs. John C. Brown" engraved near base, the lid surmounted by floriform finial, the spout terminating in bestial head, marked to underside of base.
