Lot Description

Fine Louis XVI champlevé enameled floral painted gold snuff box paris, circa 1785, maker's mark indistinct, with henry clavel charge marks, 1782-178

Rectangular form, enameled in deep blue with gold flakes to imitate lapis lazuli, the cover set centrally with a painted oval panel of a floral still life, white guilloché border. The inside of the cover and body struck with interlaced L for Clavel, maison commune mark, and maker's mark, the rim struck with two eagle heads for guarantee, 1837-1847, also stamped with the number 17 on the rim near hinge.
