Lot Description

Set of five rare Japanese Arita porcelain imperial teacups and saucers seiji kaisha, meiji period, circa 1879-1890

The cups and matching saucers finely painted and gilt with alternating bands of pink and gold grounds, the pink bands centered by gilt oval medallion of a floral bouquet issuing beaded swags, one band centered by an oval with the imperial chrysanthemum mon painted in gold and red, the gold bands with textured gilt ground of repeating dots, centered with a garland of blue and white violets suspended from a bow, the underside of the cup and saucer signed in red enamel Japanese characters "Seiji Kaisha Kinsei" (respectfully made by the Seiji Company).
