Lot Description

Chinese Export porcelain armorial plate from the service of William Alexander (1726-1783) of New York circa 1775

Bearing the coat-of-arms of Alexander quartering MacDonald: the central shield flanked by a semi-nude man holding a club and a mermaid, above the motto, "Per Mare Per Terras," all surmounted by a beaver atop a crown; with outer band of floral bouquets joined by bamboo, the shaped gilt rim with green sawtooth border.
