Lot Description

Fine 18 karat yellow gold, diamond, turquoise and enamel tabatiére russian, 1789

Centering on miniature watercolor on ivory painted seated, possibly seated Aphrodite with dove accompanied by Eros. Framed by two rows of veri sized old cushion cut diamonds, royal blue guilloché enameling accented by gold foliate detailing to top, sides and bottom. Top surrounded by white enamel detailing, old cushion cut diamonds alternating with turquoise beads. Top and bottom displaying worn Russian hallmarks for St. Petersburg, date 1789, maker marks 'FS', and '74'. Double French eagle hallmarks on outter lower portion where lid fits onto bottom.
