Lot Description

French gilt bronze mantel clock commemorating the Battle of Waterloo circa 1840

The circular porcelain dial with Roman numerals surmounted by a figure of Napoleon I on horseback with sword raised, atop a rockform base engraved "honneur et gloire," waterloo 18 juin 1815," "souven de empire," "courage, la france vous-regarde," supported on waisted rectangular base with cast eagle, flag, and weapons at center and canons and helmets at shoulders, raised on acanthus cast scroll fore-feet; the brass movement stamped with a fourchée cross and the numbers 277 and 72.
