Lot Description

Italian majolica pill pot and cover castel durante or pesaro, circa 1580

Decorated with brown and white trophies against a blue ground, the domed lid above compressed ovoid-form jar, the shoulder bearing the inscription "*P*FETIDE*MAG*M*" probably abreviated from the latin "foetidae pilulae magistralis mondo" for pills made from gum asafetida as purified by the physician.
