[Travel Archive - Western Plains, by boat- G.W. Gibson, photographer - late 19th century] Travel diary, Jan 1877-1879. Tall 12mo. Records travels through St. Louis, Kansas, 'Indian Territory'[Oklahoma], Arkansas, Kentucky. .... encounters with Pawnee indians. "Tues 2, 79....was attacked by indians. They could not speak English. Shot at us four times. Thank god nobody hurt. Pulled away from them. Boat & Chest? are wounded bad. Wish I was out of this country..." Other mentions of Fort Gibson, Webber's Falls, Fort Smith. * Together with six photographs: four mounted albumen prints, one of a family portrait with names and ages inscr on verso and three portraits insr "Troop E 5 Cav" from Fort Apache, Arizona; a 1/4 plate framed tintype of men on sail boats; a 1/2 plate tintype possibly depicting his daughter with postmarked envelope mounted on verso addressed to Mrs. A. Gibson.* Also with framed pen & ink drawing inscr "Royal Palm at Los Angles [sic] Cal Drawn by Jordan of Norfolk Va when him and G.W. Gibson and Jordan were there."
