Broadside. Jefferson, Thomas. "Speech of Thomas Jefferson, President of the United States, Delivered at His Installment March 4, 1801. At the City of Washington." P[hilade]lphia: H. Maxwell for Mathew Carey, [1801]. 15 3/16in; 495 x 385mm. With engraved portrait of Jefferson, 2 3/8 x 2 2/8 in; 60 x 60 mm, above title, text in 3 columns. Upper left blank corner of broadside chipped away, chip at bottom center with loss to the letters "hilade" in Philadelphia in imprint, 3 small areas of paper loss in middle column, the largest 15 x 15mm; small area of paper loss in the 3rd column about 10 x 10mm, other extremely small areas of paper loss. Moderately toned, scattered foxing & spotting. With fading ink signature above port of the original owner, Caspar Schlater, who also added Jefferson's name in ink to frame port.

The first printing on paper, about March 11, 1801; Carey also issued a printing on satin on about that date & later that month another paper printing stating, "third edition."
