Lot Description

Fine Louis XV style gilt bronze and white marble "pendule a cercle tournant" mantle clock late 19th century

The detachable gilt bronze figure of a putto wearing a centurion's armor sat on a bale of sticks, a set of ram's head bellows, and a pair of crossed banners, lifting off to reveal the movement, the plate impressed with letters "R.A.", and scratched initials P.J. above, the date 14-1-14, and numbers 65796, with two wheels, one for minutes and one for hours, with enamel numerals at the edge, above cylindrical marble case mounted with floral swags, above a laurel wreath edge, raised on a square plinth, inset on each side with finely cast gilt bronze roundels depicting a classical maiden and her lover next to an athenienne burner, with attendant putti, above a leaf tip edge and square base.
