Note:
Leon Moisseiff (1872-1943) was a leading suspension bridge engineer who began his career as one of the designers of the Mahattan Bridge over the East River. With Ralph Madjeski, he designed the Benjamin Franklin Bridge across the Delaware River (completed in 1926). At its completion it was the world's longest suspension bridge.
This rare album includes images during all stages of the bridge's construction, including demolition, setting beams and supports, paving, inspection, and building of the toll booth, as well as several street scenes and city views of both Camden and Philadelphia. The only other known copy of an album of this type documenting the bridge construction exists in the archives of the Smithsonian.
