Lot Description

Fine George III silver fruit basket on stand john wakelin & william taylor, london, 1780-81

The footed pierced oval basket raised on four naturalistically cast eagle form feet, with twin ram's head drop-ring handles, and openwork band of Vitruvian scrolls, either side of the body with ribbon-tied cartouches engraved with a coat-of-arms with the Surtees family crest of three ostrich-feathers emerging from a ducal coronet above and the motto "Malo Mori Quam Foedari" below, the conforming stand further engraved with the Surtees crest and raised on four bud feet. Scratch weight 51=17 to the underside of stand.

H: 8 1/2, W: 15 in. Total weight: 110 oz.
