[Stafleu & Cowan, p983, wrote that this work is "One of the nightmares of botanical bibliography ... Several editions are known to have been distributed, but new title-pages, partial indexes and new covers were issued at different times either with existing stock or with later reprints... There are hardly any identical copies. Very often plates are lacking, but... a huge number of "variants" exist."] Other bound collections of this work, originally issued in parts are said to hold various numbers of prints from 164 to 159 plates. Dunthorne 241, "A most important work, and from the print point of view of technique and pure colour printing, Redoute's masterpiece." Calling for 159 plates.
