Lot Description

Fine Louis XV brown tortoiseshell and boulle marquetry gilt bronze mounted bracket clock the case circa 1740, the dial signed achille brocot

The engraved brass dial with porcelain Arabic numerals, blue steel hands, and porcelain face signed 'Achille Brocot', the waisted case with glazed door, mounted all over with rocaille mounts, surmounted by a figure of Hebe and Jupiter's Eagle, above four dog's head mounts at the corners, raised on cabriole legs headed by female masks, the conforming bracket with mask and scroll mounts. One spring dated 1790 (presumed the date of the first repair), the plate underneath the dial with three 19th century repair inscriptions, dated 1847, 1876 and 1882, the movement probably restored in the 19th century by makers including Brocot who signed the dial.
