Lot Description

Good collection of George III patch boxes late 18th/early 19th century, battersea, bilston and elsewhere

Including a hexagonal box, the lid delicately painted in light blue to show two men fishing, the sides with white enamel scrolls on a blue ground; a pale green circular box, the lid painted in black on a white ground with the motto "Though Absent not Forgotten" around a sailing ship; a cobalt blue rectangular box, the lid painted to show a hunting scene; a pale pink triangular box, the lid decorated in white enamel to show a star; an oviform eggshell blue nutmeg grater painted to show flowers; an oval box, the lid painted to show the ship Victory; a pale yellow oval box, the lid painted with the motto "We will never repent that he sowed tears who shall bring home his sheaves with joy"; a pale pink circular box, the lid painted to show a naval battle from the French wars; an oval box painted with a portrait of Paul Jones; a small cobalt blue oval box, the lid painted with the motto "May love unite us"; and four others, similar; together with an enamel pipe, a small tooth and ivory snuff mull, an ivory toothpick holder, and three other boxes.
