(Paxton Massacre Manuscript.) Read, Charles. Autograph Letter Signed. Burlington, New Jersey, January 7, 1764. 3pp, folio; minor wear. Addressed to John Ladd & David Cooper [Justices of the Peace for Gloucester County, New Jersey.] Deploring the murder of American Indians under Quaker Protection by the "Paxton Boys" in Lancaster County during December 1763, "The late outrage..., is such a notorious violation of the Rights of Government, and a crime of so black a dye..." Three printed editions of this letter were printed by Andrew Stewart in Philadelphia during 1764. Evans 9809, 9810, 9811.
